Klaus Schrenk

Klaus Schrenk (born July 6, 1949 in Hamburg ) is a German art historian .

Life

Klaus Schrenk studied art history , German and sociology in Hamburg , Berlin and Marburg . 1974–1975 he did a research stay in Paris . 1976 Schrenk at was University of Marburg in Heinrich Klotz and Martin Warnke on Democratic-Republican tendencies in French prints 1830-1852 doctorate . The dissertation deals with the French printmaking of the 19th century, with special emphasis on Honoré Daumier and his circle.

He then received the "Richard Hamann Scholarship of the State of Hesse" in 1976 and completed an internship at the Staatliche Kunsthalle Berlin from 1978–1979 . From 1979 Klaus Schrenk was a research assistant, later deputy director, of the Städtische Kunsthalle Düsseldorf .

In 1986 he moved to the Kunstmuseum Bonn as deputy director . There, large overview exhibitions on Wolfgang Laib , Blinky Palermo , Markus Lüpertz , Brice Marden or Helmut Federle as well as the new building of the art museum by Axel Schultes were at the center of his activities.

On November 1, 1995, Schrenk became professor and director of the State Art Gallery in Karlsruhe . On March 1, 2009, he succeeded Reinhold Baumstark in the position of General Director of the Bavarian State Painting Collections .

Klaus Schrenk has published publications, primarily on art from the 19th and 20th centuries, and is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Kulturstiftung der Länder , the Board of Trustees of the Hessian Cultural Foundation , the Advisory Board of the Saarland Cultural Heritage Foundation, the Villa Massimo jury , Rome and the Board of Trustees of Akademie Schloss Solitude .

He has been married to the psychologist Anna Schrenk-Siafaka since 1976 and has two grown children.

On October 31, 2014, Klaus Schrenk divorced and retired from the position of General Director of the Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen.
