Matthew "Matt" Nicholas Crampton (born May 23, 1986 in Manchester ) is a former English track cyclist specializing in short-term disciplines.
Athletic career
In 2003 Matthew Crampton was British Junior Sprint Champion and runner-up in the 1000-meter time trial ; the following year he won both disciplines. He also achieved several international successes in 2004: at the 2004 Commonwealth Games for Juniors in Bendigo , he took first place in the sprint and also second in the time trial. At the European Championships in Valencia , he had a double success by winning the sprint and keirin titles .
In 2005 Crampton moved to the elite class. At the British Championships in the same year he won the team sprint title with Jason Kenny and Josh Hargreaves , finished second in the sprint and third in the time trial. In the following years he won further national titles and podium places in international competitions.
At the Track World Championships 2009 in Pruszków , Matthew Crampton was runner-up in the team sprint (with Jason Kenny and Jamie Staff ); He was also able to place in the top ten in Keirin and Sprint. In 2011 Crampton won the silver medal in the team sprint at the World Railroad Championships in Apeldoorn with Jason Kenny and Chris Hoy ; in the same year he became European champion in the keirin. In 2012 he finished third in the team sprint at the European Championships with Callum Skinner and Lewis Oliva . In 2013 and 2016 he was successful in the Track Cycling World Cup : 2013 at the Track Cycling World Cup in Aguascalientes in Keirin and in 2016 at the Track Cycling World Cup in Hong Kong with Philip Hindes , Callum Skinner and Jason Kenny in the team sprint.
In the course of his successful career, Crampton was never nominated for the Olympic Games. In November 2016 he announced his retirement from active sport and that he wanted to work as a coach in the future. He is an older brother of cyclist Jessica Crampton .
