Lewis Oliva (born August 23, 1992 in Devauden , Monmouthshire ) is a former Welsh track cyclist .

Athletic career

In 2012 Lewis Oliva was British champion in the team sprint , together with David Daniell and Peter Mitchell , and runner-up in the sprint .

At the UEC European Rail Championships 2012 in Panevėžys , Lithuania , Oliva won the bronze medal in the team sprint together with Matthew Crampton and Callum Skinner and was sixth in the keirin . In 2014 he won the national team sprint title again with Philip Hindes , Jason Kenny and Callum Skinner, and came third in the Keirin. In the semifinals of the sprint competition, Oliva fell, suffered burns and had around 100 splinters of wood in his body. Despite these injuries, he was nominated for the UEC European Track Championships in 2014 , where he finished sixth in the team sprint with Skinner and Crampton.

In 2014 Oliva was British champion in team sprint with Philip Hindes, Kenny and Skinner, in 2015 in sprint, 2017 and 2018 in keirin . At the Commonwealth Games 2018 he won the silver medal in this discipline.

In October 2018, Oliva announced his retirement from cycling to pursue his medical degree . He had previously studied philosophy at the Open University . He is married to the former cyclist Ciara Horne .
