Horst Kläuser

Horst Kläuser (born February 26, 1956 in Remscheid ) is a German journalist and moderator .

biography

As the son of a Finnish woman and a German tool wholesaler, Kläuser grew up in Remscheid, where he graduated from the Leibniz Gymnasium in 1974 . Instead of joining his father's company, he began writing for the Remscheider General-Anzeiger in the late summer of 1974 . At the same time he began studying art, journalism and Scandinavian studies at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster. He later switched to political science with Norbert Konegen and Wichard Woyke . He never finished a dissertation he had started .

In 1977 he applied for the first time to the Westdeutscher Rundfunk , at that time still in the Bergisch office in Wuppertal. After a long, freelance work at WDR and several temporary contracts, Kläuser was permanently employed in the fall of 1983.

As a result, Kläuser worked mainly for the radio broadcasts of WDR 2 as an editor , reporter and presenter . In 1993 he was appointed editor-in-chief after a program reform he helped to shape. In 1992 he worked for the first time as a correspondent in New York and at the United Nations . In 1994, the ARD appointed him "green reporter" for non-sporting reporting during the 1994 soccer World Cup in the USA. In 1996 he moved to the WDR / NDR radio studio in Washington, DC , where he worked as a USA correspondent until February 2002 . During this time he reported on the Lewinsky affair , the 2000 presidential election and the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 . In 2002 the ARD appointed him radio correspondent for the CIS .

At the beginning of 2008, Kläuser returned to Cologne as WDR2 chief reporter. He was also editor-in-chief and presenter of Weltzeit , the only international broadcast on WDR radio. In May 2017 he said goodbye to the WDR 2 listeners as a moderator.

Others

At an early age, Kläuser also began to moderate for associations and foundations outside the WDR and in October 1982 launched a talk show in the Remscheid City Theater. Until about 1994 this talk show took place around 60 times under the twisted title "Kall nit - talk!" In November 2012, after a 17-year hiatus, there was a new start in the Teo Otto Theater .

In 1989 Kläuser became a member of the Rotary Club . In 2005 he founded the first German-speaking Rotary Club in Moscow, and remained its president until 2007. Since April 2017 he has been president and co-founder of the Rotary Club Cologne-Rodenkirchen Riviera. Above and beyond his hometown, Kläuser is involved in charitable organizations and organizes calls for donations and galas, e.g. B. on the occasion of the Elbe flood in Pirna in 2002 and the earthquake in Japan in 2011.

Kläusers lives with his wife in Remscheid.
