The Städtische Leibniz-Gymnasium Remscheid is a school in Remscheid that has existed since 1827 and has been in the Klausen school center in Remscheid-Lüttringhausen since 1986 .

history

Founded as a private middle school in 1827, the institution was expanded into a secondary school in 1873 . From 1886 it was developed into a reform secondary school , which passed the Abitur for the first time in 1901 and received its own secondary school branch from 1907. In 1937 it was named “Hindenburg School” as the municipal high school for boys. In 1946, as part of the school reform, the school became the municipal natural science high school with Latin as the first foreign language.

The school was run as the “Leibniz Gymnasium” from 1967 with the inauguration of the new building at Remscheider Brüderstraße 6–8. In 1986 it had to make way for the comprehensive school and was therefore relocated to the Klausen school center nine kilometers away.

present

In the Leibniz Gymnasium, education and training are of equal importance. Through the range of support measures, the different talent profiles of both the weaker and the stronger students are taken into account. Since the 2006/2007 school year, the Leibniz Gymnasium has been offering classes with a free work concept based on the principles of Maria Montessori in addition to regular classes for the lower secondary level .
