Mount Astor is a prominent mountain of 3710 m in the Queen Maud Mountains . It is located about two miles north of Mount Bowser in the Hays Mountains .
The American polar explorer Richard Evelyn Byrd discovered him on his flight to the geographic South Pole in November 1929 as part of his first Antarctic expedition (1928-1930) and named him after the entrepreneur and philanthropist Vincent Astor (1891-1959), a member of the Astor family and Sponsor of the expedition.
