Christos Volikakis ( Greek Χρήστος Βολικάκης , born March 25, 1988 in Volos ) is a Greek track cyclist .

Athletic career

Christos Volikakis is one of the most successful Greek track cyclists of the 2000s; he specializes in the short-term disciplines. By 2016 he had won at least 29 national titles in different age groups. In 2004 he was the first Greek champion in the 500-meter time trial of the youth. In 2005 he became Junior World Champion in Keirin in Vienna .

In the elite category, Volikakis won the bronze medal in the Keirin at the UCI Track World Championships in Manchester in 2008 . He started at the Olympic Games in Beijing , but could not place. At the UEC European Rail Championships in 2011 in Apeldoorn , he won the silver medal in the Keirin. The following year he finished ninth in the Keirin at the Olympic Games in London . Four years later, at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , he was twelfth in the Keirin.

Then Volikakis switched from the short-term to the endurance disciplines. Just a few weeks after the games in Rio, he won the silver medal in the eliminations at the European Railway Championships . In 2019 he won the scratch competition at the World Cup in Cambridge and won the overall World Cup ranking in the Omnium at the end of the season . At the European Games in 2019 he won gold in scratch and points and won silver in scratch at the European championships in scratch. At the end of the 2019/20 season, he won the overall ratings in Omnium and Scratch.
