Dion Beukeboom (born February 2, 1989 in Amsterdam ) is a former Dutch cyclist who is active on the road and track .
Athletic career
Dion Beukeboom began his cycling career with a focus on road cycling. In 2008 he became Dutch student champion in road racing . In 2009 and 2010 he won a stage of the Tour of Munster in Ireland , in 2011 a stage of the Omloop Houtse Line and in 2012 a section of the Tour de Normandie . Also in 2012 he was third in the national championship in the single pursuit on the track. In 2013 he and his team from Cyclingteam Join's - De Rijke won the prologue of the Tour of Portugal , which was contested as a team time trial.
In the same year - 2013 - Dion Beukeboom started in five different disciplines at the national track championships, in scratch and single pursuit he was runner-up. Together with the Dutch four-man team ( Roy Eefting , Tim Veldt and Jenning Huizenga ) he won bronze at the UEC European Rail Championships 2013 in Apeldoorn . In 2014 he became Dutch champion in the single pursuit and runner-up in scratch. In 2015 he won a stage of the Olympia's Tour . In the 2015 UEC European Track Championships in Switzerland Grenchen he finished third in the individual pursuit, and in the UEC train European Championships in 2016 in the following year.
On August 22, 2018, Beukeboom tried to improve the hour record set by Bradley Wiggins on the Velodromo Bicentenario in Aguascalientes, Mexico , but did not succeed with 52.757 kilometers. His performance was the fifth best ever driven. The Dutch journalist Edward Swier called Beukeboom “de man met de grote motor”.
In September 2019, Dion Beukeboom contested his last race, after which he ended his cycling career.
Private
Dion Beukeboom studied business administration in Amsterdam . In 2014 he was named Sportsman of the Year by the Stichting Studentensport Amsterdam (SSA) .
