Jan-Willem van Schip (born August 20, 1994 in Schalkwijk , Houten ) is a Dutch cyclist .

Athletic career

Jan-Willem van Schip has been a fixture in Dutch cycling since 2011, in his respective age group. He has been a member of the Dutch four-wheeler since 2015 . In 2016 he won a stage of the Tour of Mersin , in which he also wore the leadership jersey for two days.

In 2016 van Schip was nominated to take part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he started in the team pursuit together with Wim Stroetinga , Joost van der Burg and Nils van 't Hoenderdaal . After van der Burg fell in qualifying, the Dutch four was eliminated.

At the UCI Track World Championships 2018 in Apeldoorn , van Schip won a silver medal in the points race and in the Omnium . In 2019 he became world champion in the points race and won three medals at the European Games : Gold in the Omnium and silver in the points race and with Yoeri Havik in the two-man team race . On the road, he won one stage of the Tour of Belgium .
