Corbin Strong (born April 30, 2000 in Invercargill ) is a New Zealand cyclist who competes in races on the track and the road .
Athletic career
In 2014, Corbin Strong won the first national title in his age group. In 2017 he became New Zealand junior champion in points race , omnium and team sprint. In the same year he also had international success: at the Junior World Track Championships he won the bronze medal in the team pursuit with Joshua Scott , Aaron Wyllie and Harry Waine .
In January 2018, Strong collided with a car while on the road and broke a vertebra in the process . Despite this injury, he succeeded in August of that year, together with George Jackson , Bailey O'Donnell and Finn Fisher Black Junior World Champion in the team pursuit. After his return from the World Cup in Switzerland, Strong was greeted by his schoolmates from Southland Boys' High School at Invercargill Airport with two Hakas , the ritual dance of the Māori .
The following year, Corbin Strong was two-time New Zealand elite champions: in the points race and with Edward Dawkins , Nick Kergozou and Thomas Sexton in the team pursuit. At the continental level, he became champions in points driving. He was also successful on the road: He won the junior classifications of the Tour de Kumano and the Tour de Korea as well as the points classification of the Banyuwangi Tour de Ijen . In 2020 he won the New Zealand Cycle Classic junior competition
In 2020 Strong became world champion in points racing in Berlin at the age of 19
Honors
In 2019 Corbin Strong was honored twice with a New Zealand Cycling Award ("Junior Male Track", "Track Team").
