Élise Delzenne (born January 28, 1989 in Lesquin ) is a former French cyclist . Her biggest career achievement was winning the French road championship in 2013.
Career
Élise is the daughter of Sylvie, b. Dassonneville, and Philippe Delzenne, who both did bike tours . She grew up in Nomain , near the border with Belgium.
Delzenne has been active in cycling since 1999, initially in the Orchies club . She took part in several bike tours. When she was twelve, she competed in the Union française des œuvres laïques d'éducation physique . In 2004 she became a member of the Entente sportive des enfants de Gayant de Douai and took part in competitions of the Fédération Française de Cyclisme . In 2005 she won the silver medal at the French youth championship in the points race . In the same year she took eleventh place on the street in Pont-du-Fossé .
In 2006 Delzenn was nominated for the European Road Championships in Valkenburg aan de Geul . In 2007 she was a member of the Wasquehal junior team , where she was trained by Hervé Boussard . In June she became French junior championship champion in Hyères . She also finished fourth in the singles pursuit , but personally rated this result as a disappointment. Then she won the French junior road championships in the sprint finals and came fourth in the individual time trial in Mussidan .
After her national title and her high school diploma, Élise Delzenne decided to take a break from competition in order to concentrate on her studies. She studied engineering assistance in Armentières and received a Brevet de Technicien Supérieur in 2009 , comparable to a Bachelor (FH) . She then went to the ENSAIT textile engineering college. There she completed a dual training course at PGI Nordlys in Bailleul . During this break, she continued to do sports and in 2010 took part in the La route du Louvre marathon .
In 2012 Delzenne returned to cycling and placed several times in races on the Belgian national calendar. At the French championship in Saint-Amand-les-Eaux near her home, she had less success. She crashed a first time during the individual time trial and finished 18th, then a second time in the road race one kilometer from the finish in the battle for third place. On the track she won the bronze medal at the French championship in the Omnium in Bordeaux . She also finished fourth in the points race and fifth in the single pursuit in Hyères .
After completing her engineering degree, she was hired as a quality engineer by a laundry in Soissons .
In 2013 Delzenne moved to the French UCI Women's Team Bourgogne Pro-Dialog . As in the previous year, she finished third at the national omnium championships in Roubaix . She got good results in the various races in the French Cup: in Pujols , in Ain and Plumelec . She was 19th at Gent-Wevelgem and she finished seventh in the overall ranking of the Grand Prix Elsy Jacobs . In June 2013 she became French street champion in Lannilis . She was the fastest in the sprint of the Spitzgruppe.
At the end of the season, she left this team and signed a contract with Team Specialized-lululemon . At Molecaten Drentse 8 , where her teammate Chantal Blaak won, she finished twelfth. At the beginning of May, she took fourth place in the Ronde van Overijssel , where her teammate Lisa Brennauer won. She then took part in the British The Women's Tour . On the first stage she was on the run alone for 25 km, but was overtaken on the last kilometer. Due to time credits, she was fifth overall.
At the national championship she was again fourth in the individual time trial, one second behind Aude Biannic . On the road she could not follow the decisive escape. She came second in the main field in the sprint final and finished tenth. After the race, she confessed to making tactical mistakes.
In July she took part in the Thuringia Tour , where she helped her teammates Evelyn Stevens and Lisa Brennauer to achieve victory or third place in the overall ranking. At the road world championship in 2014 she took part in the French national team around the future world champion Pauline Ferrand-Prévot and was 43 herself.
On the track she won the title in the points race and the silver medals in the single pursuit and in the scratch at the French championship . With the regional team, she also won the bronze medal in the team pursuit . After the winter break she took part in the International Belgian Open and achieved victory in the points race and second place in the single pursuit.
In 2015 Delzenne was nominated for the track world championship in points, in the single pursuit and the team pursuit . She took fourth place in the points race and ninth place in the single pursuit. She said she went into the pursuit too quickly, paying for her inexperience. In April she won Dwars door de Westhoek after a 40 km escape. In the second stage of Gracia Orlová , she and Lara Vieceli attacked 4 km from the finish. She then defeats them in a sprint. She was second in the Erondegemse Pijl behind Thalita de Jong . She took part in the 2015 Road World Championships , fell and gave up. On the track, she won three titles in the French championship: in points , single pursuit and scratch. At the 2015 European Track Championships she got the silver medal in points races, behind Katarzyna Pawłowska and single pursuit, behind Katie Archibald .
At the end of May 2016 she had a particularly successful weekend. On Friday she finished second in the Grand Prix de Plumelec-Morbihan Dames ; on Saturday third in the Grand Prix de Plumelec and on Sunday third in Gooik-Geraardsbergen-Gooik , all three UCI races. Nevertheless, she got no place in the team for the Olympic Games . At the national championship, she attacked 60 km from the finish. She was nearly two minutes ahead of 25km from the end with a disorganized chase when she hit a flat tire. Due to the time it took to repair it, it lost its lead and eventually finished fifth. In August she won the individual time trial of the Trophée d'Or and achieved the overall victory. On the track, she defended the national championship in points and single pursuit.
In May 2017 she won the second stage of the festival luxembourgeois du Cyclisme Féminin Elsy Jacobs in the sprint . In September Delzenne announced her retirement from competitive sports. After her last race, the single pursuit at the European Track Championships in 2017 , she joined the Btwin Women's Road Bike Team as a textile engineer in the field of road cycling clothing for women. In this last competition she finished tenth.
