action

For Jenny, who at the age of 30 is already the technical director of a Munich opera house, a career is paramount. But that could change with your pregnancy. Her friend Tobias, who is married to the family business, does not think the time to have a child is ideal because he finally wants to take over the management of the company from his father. The relationship is doubly tense because after years from Ibiza Jenny's fun-loving mother Jutta is back and plans to stay longer. She stays with the two of them and first organizes a proper party with her old hippie friends in their designer apartment. Tobias' father Roman is quite the opposite. He has mourned his deceased wife for ages and considers custom and propriety to be basic virtues. Jutta immediately thinks that he should finally be cheered up. On a weekend fishing trip together, she immediately begins to flirt around him. But Jenny, too, has recently had someone who loves her: Eric, an unhappy love from the past, who was hired at short notice as a set designer for her Magic Flute production, is constantly trying to get her attention.

These turbulent circumstances are turning everyone's lives upside down. Before long, Jenny gets into an argument with her mother, so Jutta packs her things and takes them off again. There is also an ice age for Tobias because he takes his company business more seriously than Jenny's family planning and he separates from her. In the end, Jenny succumbs to Eric's constant advances.

Meanwhile, Tobias father finds out that he is going to be a grandfather and is delighted. He lets Jutta persuade him to go on a trip to the mountains. He cannot resist the refreshing manner of this woman and they spend the night together in a mountain hut. When Jutta informs him that Tobias has withdrawn from Jenny, he wants to bring them back together. But Jutta explains to him that the two have to find their way alone.

When Jenny's child is born and both Tobias and Eric come to congratulate the young mother, Roman asks what this should be? Jutta explains only briefly to him: a blended family , that is what her generation would have invented after all.

criticism

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv said: “'My mother, my men' is a good example of how, especially in light genres that do not tell anything earth-moving, the way the story is structured and how it is filmed decides on the quality. ”The film“ works towards the birth of a blended family with few surprises and yet it is an entertaining everyday comedy. The dramaturgical patterns are borrowed from romantic comedy, the social clichés are realistically interwoven, and the play of the top cast oscillates between serious and ironic. "

The critics of the TV magazine TV Spielfilm only gave it a medium rating (thumbs straight) and said the film: “Never really comes out of the comedy depths (yes, yes, the hippie mothers).” Conclusion: “Emotional chaos of the 'generation maybe'”.

Ulrich Feld from the FNP assessed: “The happy ending with a blended family is foreseeable, but it shouldn't have been. Precisely because one is so used to the fact that all problems in such TV productions vanish into thin air, one would have liked to have seen something different. […] 'My mother, my men' is in the end a very entertaining production, but it loses its effect unnecessarily due to its indecisive pendulum back and forth between strenuous, turbulent comedy and exciting romantic drama.
