Pandi Mele

Pandi Mele (born August 18, 1939 in Hoçisht, Devoll , † December 14, 2015 ) was an Albanian painter and graphic artist .

life and work

Pandi Mele attended the “Jordan Misja” art school in Tirana, where he devoted himself to painting. From 1959 to 1961 he studied graphics for two years at the IE Repin Institute in Saint Petersburg with SM Vasilyevich. From 1961 to 1964 he studied at the University of the Arts in Tirana with Abdulla Cangonji (* 1920), Sadik Kaceli , Qamil Grezda (1917–1992), Abdurrahim Buza and Kristina Koljaka (1916–2005). Pandi Mele followed a call as a professor at the University of the Arts Tirana.

A collection of around 54 works by Meles is owned by the Galeria Kombëtare e Arteve in Albania.

The oil painting Soldiers of the Revolution (1968), a work of socialist realism by Pandi Mele, was shown at documenta 14 in 2017 .
