The Arena Stožice is a multi-purpose hall in the Slovenian capital Ljubljana .

history

The hall is located in the Športni park Stožice ( German  Sportpark Stožice ); which also includes the Stožice Stadium , which opened in 2010 and has around 16,000 seats. A shopping center with 120 shops was due to be completed at the end of 2011, but it still only exists in the shell. The total area of ​​the property is 166,000 m 2 . The shape of the roof is reminiscent of a scallop shell .

It is the sporting home of the basketball club KK Union Olimpija , the women's handball team of the Rokometni Klub Krim and the volleyball club ACH Volley Bled for international games. The arena was opened on August 10, 2010 with the international basketball match between Slovenia and Spain . The hosts lost to the Spaniards with 72:79 in overtime .

For the main sports basketball and handball, the arena offers 12,480 seats. There are up to 14,480 seats for concerts and other music and show events. On March 11, 2011 z. B. the horse and music show Lipica v Ljubljani takes place in the arena. The arena is equipped for most indoor sports . An ice rink for ice hockey was not initially planned. Nevertheless, the arena was the venue for the Men's Ice Hockey World Championship in Division IA 2012 and offered space for 10,000 spectators.

In the Arena Stožice, the games of the second round and the final round in the knockout system of the 2013 European basketball championship were played.
