Christina Benecke (born October 14, 1974 in Hamburg , today Christina Potratz ) is a German national volleyball player .

Career

Benecke only started playing volleyball at the age of 14. She started her career at SC Poppenbüttel . When she had a very bad season in the second division with VG Alstertal-Harksheide, she was about to end her career, but was persuaded to work for TV Fischbek . On January 2, 1997, she made her debut in the German national team in Bremen and in the same year saw her first major tournament at the European Championships in the Czech Republic .

In 1998, after the qualifying round with the DVV selection at the World Cup in Japan , she moved to Schweriner SC for one season and then moved on to Italy after finishing fourth there at the European Championships . As a legionnaire , she drove with the national team to the Olympic Games in Sydney (sixth place) and to her third European championship in Bulgaria .

In 2002, after three years abroad, she finally returned to Hamburg, where she is still active today. She celebrated her greatest success so far with the national team at the 2003 European Championships when she won bronze in Turkey. A year later, after qualifying as the “Miracle of Baku ” , she took part in the Olympic Games for the second time , where it was “only” ninth place. At the 2006 World Cup in Japan, despite a good preliminary round, there was an even worse result with eleventh place. Christina Benecke has been a player coach at SC Alstertal-Langenhorn since 2009 . With the team she became Hamburg champion and rose to the regional league and later to the third division .
