Mareen von Römer (born March 26, 1987 in Dresden as Mareen Apitz ) is a former German national volleyball player .
Career
Mareen von Römer's parents were competitive rowers. She began her career in 1998 in her hometown in the offspring of the Dresdner SC. In 2005 she moved to VC Olympia Berlin . A year later she returned to Dresden. In 2007 she became German champion for the first time. In 2010 she won the DVV Cup with the club . Von Römer also achieved her greatest international success at club level in 2010 when she won the Challenge Cup . In 2013 she was in the final of the German championship. In 2014 she won the national title again. The setter then switched to French champions RC Cannes , with whom she won the French championship in 2015. In 2015/16 von Römer played in Azerbaijan for Azeryol Baku and then moved back to DSC. Her contract with DSC was initially valid until 2018 and was extended to 2020 in May 2018. She completed more than 400 games for the DSC. After her third DVV Cup victory , von Römer ended her professional career in May 2020.
National team
In the 2006/07 season she made her debut in the senior national team under the new national coach Giovanni Guidetti . With the junior selection she had taken seventh place at the 2004 European Championships, a year earlier with the youth national team fifth place. In summer 2007 she won the European Grand Prix qualification with the women's national team and took sixth place at the European Championships in Belgium and Luxembourg. At the EM 2011 she was runner-up in Europe. In 2014 she won the tournament in Montreux with the national team. She then finished second in the Europa League and ninth at the World Cup in Italy .
Private
Von Römer lives in Dresden, is a banker and completed a distance learning course in event marketing. In July 2018 she married her partner Mario von Römer .
