Giovanni Guidetti (born  September 20, 1972 in Modena , Italy ) is an Italian volleyball coach. From 2006 to January 2015 he was the national coach of the German women's volleyball team . He is currently the trainer for Turkish women .

Career

Guidetti coached the Spezzano club in his home country from 1995 to 1998, with whom he rose to the first division in 1997. For this success he was named “Trainer of the Year”.

From 1997 to 2000 he also acted as assistant coach of the Italian national team. During this time he took part in the 1998 World Cup and the Sydney Olympic Games .

After working for USPV in the USA in the 2000/2001 season, he returned to Italy as coach from Vicenza. In parallel to his commitment, which ran until 2003, he first coached the US national B team (2002) and then the selection of Bulgaria .

In the 2003/04 season he was the coach of Modena, then he moved to Chieri, where he was again honored in 2004 with the title of “Coach of the Year” and in 2005 won the Top Teams Cup .

When national coach Hee Wan Lee resigned from his position due to disagreements with the Bundesliga clubs, the German Volleyball Association signed Guidetti in April 2006 for the women's national team, with which he took part in the World Cup in Japan and reached eleventh place.

Since 2008 Guidetti has also been Technical Director at the Turkish association Vakıfbank Güneş Sigorta İstanbul .

At the 2010 World Cup , he achieved seventh place with the German women in Japan, the best placement for 16 years. A year later he won the silver medal with the women's national team at the 2011 European volleyball championships in Serbia and Italy, as well as at the 2013 European championships in Germany and Switzerland.

In the 2012/13 season, Guidetti won the Turkish Cup, the Champions League and the Turkish Championship with Istanbul after 47 wins in a row .

At the 2014 World Cup , the German women with Guidetti only came ninth despite their greater ambitions. Then there were discussions between some players and the national coach, who offered to resign, but then agreed to train the national team until 2016.

On January 9, 2015, the DVV announced that the association and Guidetti had separated by mutual agreement. The reason for the separation was the loss of confidence after the World Cup. Because of Guidetti's simultaneous activity in Turkey, he does not have enough time to reorganize the national team.

On January 22nd, the Dutch Volleyball Federation announced that Guidetti would be the new coach of the Dutch women . He takes over the office of bond coach from Gido Vermeulen , who changes to the men. In this role he was again Vice European Champion at the 2015 European Championships and led the Dutch women to 4th place at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. At the beginning of 2017 he ended this activity and took over the Turkish national team for women.
