Gréta Szakmáry (born December 31, 1991 in Nyíregyháza ) is a Hungarian national volleyball player .

Career

Gréta Szakmáry started playing volleyball at the age of nine. After learning the sport in her hometown Nyíregyháza , she received her first professional contract with the Gödöllő Röplabda Club. From 2006 she played in the Hungarian youth national team and then in the senior national team . With Hungary, the outside attacker won the European volleyball league in 2015 . She then moved to Linamar Békéscsabai RSE. With the club she became Hungarian champion and cup winner in the 2015/16 season. In the following season, the team succeeded in defending their title in both competitions. Békéscsabai RSE also played in European Cup.

In 2017, Szakmáry moved to SSC Palmberg Schwerin . With the club she won the VBL Supercup at the beginning of the season . At the end of the year she was named Hungary's volleyball player of the year. She reached the semi-finals in the 2017/18 DVV Cup . Then she became German champion with Schwerin . The next victory in the Supercup followed in 2018. Schwerin then won the DVV Cup final against Stuttgart, while the playoff final was lost to the same opponent. In the 2019/20 DVV Cup , Szakmáry made it to the semi-finals with the club. When the Bundesliga season was canceled shortly before the playoffs, Schwerin was in first place in the table. Szakmáry will also play for Schwerin in the 2020/21 season.
