Germany
Since 1979 the readers of the specialist magazine Volleyball-Magazin have been voting for the volleyball player of the year. Among the men, Burkhard Sude (from 1980 to 1984) and Georg Grozer junior (from 2010 to 2014) are the most successful players with five titles each. Angelina Grün holds the women's record with nine awards from 2000 to 2008.
In 1990 two volleyball players were chosen, one from the East and one from the West.
Austria
In Austria, a volleyball player, a volleyball player and coach of the year have been named since 1980. After only five years, however, the election was abandoned, only in 1989 there was another vote. In 2004 and 2005 the award was given again. In 2005 a team of the year was also chosen.
