Michael Dornheim (born April 2, 1968 in Weiden ) is a former German volleyball player .

Michael Dornheim began his sporting career in the volleyball boarding school in Frankfurt-Hoechst , he was a student in one of the first years. With other players from the boarding school, Michael Dornheim came fourth in the Junior World Championship in 1987, the best result ever for a German junior national team.

From Frankfurt he came to Hamburger SV , where he played from 1987 to 1989. In his first season in Hamburg he was able to win the German championship title with his team. He was setter at a height of 1.88 m and thus the focal point of the team. At the age of twenty he was the youngest setter who was able to lead his team to the championship title. In his last season at HSV, he won the German Cup in 1989. In 1989 Michael Dornheim moved to TSV Milbertshofen , with whom he was able to repeat the cup success, and in 1990 finally to VfB Friedrichshafen , with whom he was three times German runner-up. At that time he was already a fixture in the German selection. Michael Dornheim achieved fourth place with the national team in 1991 and 1993 at the European volleyball championships . With 192 appearances he is one of the players with the most appearances for the German selection. After the end of his professional career, he joined SV Fellbach , with whom he was able to become German runner-up again in 1998 as a “ after-work professional ”. Then Michael Dornheim joined TSV Schmiden , with whom he played in the regional league and was German senior champion several times.

Michael Dornheim was voted volleyball player of the year in 1993 . In March 2010 he was awarded the golden paper of honor as part of the athlete's ceremony in the city of Fellbach .
