Björn Andrae (born May 14, 1981 in Berlin ) is a German national volleyball player and multiple volleyball player of the year . With the German national team , he achieved fifth place at the Olympic Games and top ten results at World and European Championships. He was active for many clubs abroad and in the German Bundesliga and won several championships and cups with them. Andrae has been playing for the SWD Powervolleys Düren since 2018 .
Career indoor volleyball
Björn Andrae began his career in 1993 in his hometown at SCC Berlin , with whom he won the 2000 DVV Cup . After playing a decisive role in the youth national team reaching the European Championship final in 1999, Stelian Moculescu brought him to VfB Friedrichshafen a year later and then called him to the senior national team . With his new club, Andrae made the double in 2001 and 2002. In 2003 he won the DVV Cup again. In the subsequent European Championship in Germany , however, he was unable to participate due to an injury.
The next season he played for the first time in Italy at Noicom Cuneo . The German volleyball fans recognized his achievements in 2004 with the vote for volleyball player of the year . He was able to defend this title in the following two years. In 2005 he moved to Sempervolley Padua within Italy . At the 2006 World Cup in Japan , he reached ninth place with the national team. After finishing fifth at the 2007 European Championships in Russia , he left Italy and went to the Polish club PZU AZS Olsztyn . With the national team, he reached ninth place at the Olympic Games in Beijing in August 2008. In the 2008/09 season Björn Andrae played in Greece for Panathinaikos Athens , 2009/10 in Italy for Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia and from 2010 to 2013 in Russia for VK Kuzbass Kemerowo . At the Olympic Games in London 2012 he reached fifth place. Then he ended his national team career. In 2013 Andrae switched to the Russian runner-up Ural Ufa . In early 2014 he moved again to Kemerovo during the season.
In 2015 Andrae returned to the Bundesliga and initially played for VfB Friedrichshafen. With the club, he became German runner- up in the 2015/16 season. He then moved to league competitor Netzhoppers KW Bestensee . In the playoff quarter-finals in 2017, he lost to his previous club with the Netzhoppers. A year later, Königs Wusterhausen missed the playoffs with Andrae as ninth in the table. At the end of November 2018, the SWD Powervolleys Düren announced the subsequent obligation of the external attacker. With Düren he reached the semi-finals in the DVV Cup and the quarter-finals in the Bundesliga playoffs in the 2018/19 season . In the DVV-Pokal 2019/20 he reached the final with the SWD Powervolleys, which the team lost to the Berlin Recycling Volleys . When the Bundesliga season was canceled shortly before the playoffs, Düren was in sixth place in the table. Andrae will also play for Düren in the 2020/21 season.

Björn Andrae was also active in beach volleyball . With his partner Marcus Popp he became German runner- up in 2009 .
