Marcus Popp (born September 23, 1981 in Flöha ) is a former German national volleyball player . He was also active in beach volleyball .
Career hall
Marcus Popp lived in France between the ages of seven and 14 and began his career at the French second division club AS Messine Paris. After returning, he played at TSV Flöha in his home in Saxony. From the later following PSV Chemnitz, he finally moved to the Bundesliga club VV Leipzig . In 2003 he came to VfB Friedrichshafen , with whom he won the DVV Cup a year later and made the double in 2005. During his time at VfB, he was nominated for the first time for the senior national team . Then he went to Italy. With the second division Taviano he won the second division cup in the 2005/06 season. From 2006 to 2008 he played with Gabeca Montichiari . At the World Cup in Japan , Marcus Popp reached ninth place with the national team, at the 2007 European Championship in Russia it was enough for fifth place and at the Olympic Games in Beijing in August 2008 it was ninth again. He then moved to Marmi Lanza Verona , 2009 to Volley Forlì , 2010 to Copra Piacenza and 2011 again to Marmi Lanza Verona. In 2012 Popp went to the top French team Tours VB , with whom he won the French Cup and the championship in 2013. In 2013/14 Popp played in Turkey for Maliye Milli Piyango Ankara . In 2015 he played at the UPCN Voley Club in San Juan , Argentina , with which he won the South American Club Championship and the Argentine Championship. In 2016 Popp had a short engagement with Belediye Plevne Tokat in Turkey .
Career Beach
Popp also played beach volleyball for many years . With his partner Eric Koreng he reached the final of the U23 World Championship in 2003. In 2005 he reached third place with Kay Matysik at the German championship in Timmendorfer Strand . In the following year he only played two tournaments of the German series with Manuel Rieke and the duo won both in Binz and in Sankt Peter-Ording . In the latter tournament, Popp played again in 2007 with Björn Andrae , his teammate from the national indoor team. In 2009 the duo Andrae / Popp even became German runner-up . With Sebastian Dollinger , Popp took fifth place at the FIVB Grand Slam in São Paulo in 2014 .
After partnerships with Alexander Walkenhorst , Manuel Lohmann and Eric Stadie , Popp ended his long career in 2019 after his twelfth German championship (fifth place with Milan Sievers ).
