Taviano ( Tajanu in the Salento dialect) is a south- east Italian community ( comune ) in Salento in Apulia .

geography

The municipality has 11,805 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is located in the province of Lecce , its district Marina di Mancaversa directly on the Gulf of Taranto on the periphery of the Ionian Sea . Taviano is about 42 kilometers south-southwest of Lecce .

Since 1996 the municipality has had the title città (city).

The Strada Statale 274 Salentina Meridionale is developed as a bypass of Taviano.
