Melpignano (in the Greek dialect Lipignana ) is a south- east Italian municipality ( comune ).

geography

The community has 2208 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is located in the province of Lecce in Apulia , about 24.5 kilometers south-southeast of the city of Lecce in central Salento .

history

From the Bronze Age , Memnhire and Dolmen bear witness to the early settlement. In 267 BC the Romans conquered the town from the Messapians .
