Chrysostomus Laurentius Pfrogner

Laurentius Pfrogner , religious name Chrysostomus ( baptized August 12, 1751 in Pernharz (Czech Pernarec ) near Mies in Bohemia; † September 28, 1812 in Tepl ) was a Premonstratensian , 1802 rector of Charles University in Prague and from 1803 to 1812 abbot of Teplá Monastery in western Bohemia .

After studying at the Charles University in Prague and obtaining a doctorate in philosophy in 1774, the peasant's son Laurentius (or Laurenz or Lorenz) Pfrogner entered the Premonstratensian order the following year and took the religious name Chrysostom , which he then adopted led in the first place. From 1788 he was prefect of studies at the general seminar in Prague. After receiving his doctorate in theology in 1790, he was Professor of Church History at Prague University from 1791, teaching at the Faculty of Philosophy. In 1796 he was the dean of this faculty and in 1802 he was the rector of the Charles University. In the years after 1803 Chrysostomus Laurentius Pfrogner was abbot of the Teplá Monastery in western Bohemia . In 1812 his secretary, Karl Prokop Reitberger , succeeded him.

Pfrogner was an author of ecclesiastical and philosophical writings, made a contribution to the construction of the Premonstratensian grammar school in Pilsen and, at the urging of the monastery doctor Johann Josef Nehr, had a first permanent bath house built in 1808 at the Marienbrunnen near Tepls , which resulted in further expansion of the place under his Successor riding Berger the spa town Marienbad was established.
