Ambros Alfred Clementso

Ambros Alfred Clementso (born October 28, 1831 in Eger ( Cheb ) in western Bohemia ; † July 19, 1900 in Marienbad ) was a Premonstratensian and from 1887 to 1900 the 48th abbot of the Teplá Monastery in western Bohemia.

Live and act

Clementso was the son of a cloth maker who moved to Eger and a town's daughter, was ordained a priest in 1854 and obtained his doctorate, probably at the University of Prague . In 1886, as a member of the Teplá Monastery, he was fountain inspector of the spa town of Marienbad and promoted the development of Marienbad into a spa for European celebrities by building two additional bath houses, a spa salon and another colonnade; a healing spring got its first name as "Alfredquelle".

In 1888 he had the Tepl abbey expanded by building a hospital ward for members of the monastery, a mill, a brewery and stables and a post and telegraph office was set up. Since 1896 there was a connection to the railway network with connections to Prague and Vienna through the private railway Marienbad – Karlsbad .

Abbot Clementso was the 48th abbot of the Teplá Monastery from 1887 to 1900, consistorial councilor, vicar general and state prelate for Bohemia, became an honorary citizen of Marienbad and the surrounding areas and was a knight of the Emperor Franz Joseph Order . During his time as abbot, the Teplá Monastery celebrated the 700th anniversary of its foundation in 1892 and the beatification of the founder Hroznata von Ovenec in 1898 .
