Miggiano is a south-eastern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 3426 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Lecce in Apulia . The municipality is located about 45.5 kilometers from Lecce in southern Salento .

history

In 1182 the place is mentioned as villagio di Miggiano . Numerous archaeological sites can be found as settlement areas for the Messapians , but also for the Romans. Since 2003 the municipality has been called "Città" (city).

The Miggiano- Montesano Salentino station is served by the Ferrovia del Sud Est trains on the line from Zollino or Maglie to Gagliano del Capo . The Strada Statale 275 di Santa Maria di Leuca runs through the municipality from Maglie to Castrignano del Capo .
