Surbo is an Italian commune in the Apulia region of the province of Lecce with 14,944 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). The city lies at an altitude of 44 meters above sea level on the south-eastern tip of Italy. Surbo is an enclave within the city of Lecce. The city of Lecce , the administrative center of the province of Lecce, is about eight kilometers southeast of Surbo. The city's name was first mentioned in 1181 when the region came under Norman rule.
Emanuele de Giorgi, one of the victims of the hostage-taking of Gladbeck, came from here . He was also buried here .
