Surano is a south-eastern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 1592 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Lecce in Apulia . The municipality is located about 39.5 kilometers south-southeast of Lecce in Salento and is part of the Unione dei Comuni delle Terre di Mezzo . It is about seven kilometers to the east to the Ionian Sea .
