Castri di Lecce is a south-eastern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 2821 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Lecce in Apulia . The municipality is located about 13.5 kilometers southeast of Lecce in central Salento .
history
There are still three preserved menhirs in the municipality . The community was first mentioned in a document in 1190. The community was divided into two places, Castrifrancone and Castriguarino , or was under the rule of two different houses since the beginning of the 14th century. Both places have been reunited since 1891.
