Patù is a south-eastern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 1655 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Lecce in Apulia . The municipality is located about 25.5 kilometers south-southwest of Lecce in southern Salento . The Ionian Sea is four kilometers to the southwest or east.

history

When the Saracens destroyed the city of Vereto in the 9th century , parts of the surviving population settled here. The year of foundation of the place is set to 877 or, according to another tradition, to 924.

The Strada Statale 274 Salentina Meridionale runs through the municipality from Gallipoli to Castrignano del Capo .
