Alliste (in the local dialect Caddhriste ) is a south-east Italian community ( comune ).
geography
The community has 6614 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is located in the province of Lecce in Apulia , about 45.5 kilometers south-southwest of the city of Lecce in southern Salento . It is 4.5 kilometers to the west from Alliste to the Mediterranean Sea ( Gulf of Taranto ). The district of Capilungo is located directly on the sea.
history
The area around Alliste was already settled in the Bronze Age, as menhirs and archaeological finds in the area show. The oldest surviving documentary mention of the village comes from 1275. Over time, the villages of Alliste and Racale grew together. However, they still form two different communities.
Economy and Transport
The municipality is used for growing olives .
The most important road connection is the Strada Statale 274 Salentina Meridionale .
The station Alliste-Racale is located on the railway line Casarano-Gallipoli .
