Diso is a south-eastern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 2903 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Lecce in Apulia . The municipality is located about 45 kilometers southeast of Lecce on the Ionian Sea in southern Salento . Diso is part of the Parco naturale regional Costa Otranto - Santa Maria di Leuca e Bosco di Tricase .

The menhir of Vardare stands north of Diso.

history

The construction of a church in the year 1003 is certain. The parish had been settled by the Messapians even earlier . In the 9th century, Saracens raided the coast. A house of the Capuchin Order has been in the village since the 18th century .
