Ivan Batanov (born April 25, 2000 in Moscow , Russia ) is a German volleyball player . The Libero has been playing for the Bundesliga club SWD Powervolleys Düren since 2019 , with whom he reached the DVV Cup final in 2020.

Career

Batanov was born the son of a Russian and a Chinese woman and came to Germany with his family via Belgium and China. He began his career in his father's volleyball club at the elementary school in Niederjosbach . He then played for TuS Kriftel . In 2015 the Libero went to the volleyball boarding school in Frankfurt . In the 2018/19 season, the junior national player competed in the Bundesliga with the youth team VC Olympia Berlin . In the summer, his debut in the senior national team was planned for the Nations League . It did not materialize because of an operation on the shoulder. The Bundesliga team SWD Powervolleys Düren , who had already been interested in Batanov, signed him as the second libero alongside Blair Bann . In the DVV-Pokal 2019/20 he reached the final with the SWD Powervolleys, which the team lost to the Berlin Recycling Volleys . When the Bundesliga season was canceled shortly before the playoffs, Düren was in sixth place in the table. Batanov will also play for Düren in the 2020/21 season.
