Sebastian Gevert (born June 23, 1988 in Mexico City ) is a Chilean volleyball player . The diagonal attacker is a national player and has been national champion in several countries. Since 2018 he has been playing again with the SWD Powervolleys Düren , with which he reached the cup final in 2020.
Career
Gevert was born in Mexico when his father was working for Bayer there. When he was two years old, his family moved to Santiago de Chile . His father Ricardo and his uncle Alex played in the German Bundesliga for TSV 1860 Munich in the mid-1980s . His brothers Cristóbal and Juan Pablo were Chilean internationals. He started his own career in 2003 in Chile at Club Deportivo Manquehue . In the 2006/07 season, the diagonal attacker, who had spent some time in Germany during his youth and who has both Chilean and German citizenship, played for SSF Fortuna Bonn . Then he returned to Manquehue. In 2010 the captain of the Chilean national team moved to Portol Palma Mallorca . There he played in the Challenge Cup , which was over for the club after one round. The following season was more successful for Gevert. With SC Espinho he won the Portuguese championship with a success in the final against Benfica Lisbon .
In the summer of 2012, the diagonal attacker was signed by the German Bundesliga club evivo Düren . With the club he reached the playoff quarterfinals of the Bundesliga and the semifinals of the DVV Cup in the 2012/13 season . A year later, the Düren lost with Gevert in the quarterfinals of both competitions. The 2014/15 season was more successful, in which the SWD Powervolleys only had to admit defeat in the semifinals of the DVV Cup and the Bundesliga . In the 2015/16 season, Gevert played internationally with Düren and reached the quarter-finals of the CEV Cup . In the national competitions, the team was subject to the SVG Lüneburg in the cup round of 16 and in the playoff quarter-finals . After the season Gevert left Düren and moved to the Czech Republic to Jihostroj České Budějovice . With the club he won the Czech championship in the 2016/17 season. He also made it to the second round of the Challenge Cup . In 2017, the diagonal attacker went to the Belgian club Noliko Maaseik . With Maaseik he became Belgian champion in the 2017/18 season. In the Champions League , the team reached the first playoff round.
Then Gevert returned to the SWD Powervolleys Düren. With the team he reached the semifinals in the DVV Cup and the quarterfinals in the Bundesliga playoffs . He became the top scorer in the league. In the 2019/20 DVV Cup , Gevert reached the final with the SWD Powervolleys, which the team lost to the Berlin Recycling Volleys . When the Bundesliga season was canceled shortly before the playoffs, Düren was in sixth place in the table. Gevert will also play for Düren in the 2020/21 season.
