Blair Cameron Bann (born February 26, 1988 in Edmonton ) is a Canadian national volleyball player . With the national team he was u. a. Fifth in the Olympics. The Libero played for two French first division teams and since 2019 again for the SWD Powervolleys Düren .

Career

Bann began his career at Picard High School in Edmonton. From 2006 he played with the Thunderbirds of the University of British Columbia . There he was named Libero of the Year three times by the Canadian Interuniversity Sport . In the summer of 2008, Bann made his debut for the Canadian national team . With the national team he reached sixth place at the Pan American Games in 2011 and received an award as the best acceptance player of the tournament. In 2012 he played with Canada in the world league .

He then moved to the German Bundesliga club evivo Düren . With the Düren, he reached the playoff quarter-finals in the Bundesliga , which were lost to VfB Friedrichshafen without winning a set . Düren was able to defeat the same opponent with a spell in the quarter-finals of the DVV Cup , before the end of the semifinals against Generali Haching . In 2013, Bann and Canada became the NORCECA runner-up and the best acceptance player of the tournament. He also played in the world league again . Then he went to the French first division club Nantes Rezé Métropole Volley. He finished fifth in the 2014 World League .

After a year in France, the Libero returned to Düren. With the SWD Powervolleys he reached third place in the Bundesliga and the semi-finals in the DVV Cup in the 2014/15 season . In the statistics of the Bundesliga main round, he was the best libero of the season. In summer 2015 he played with the national team in the world league again ; the Canadians took third place in their preliminary group in Division II. In the 2015/16 season he reached the quarter-finals of the Bundesliga playoffs ; The Dürener also reached the quarter-finals in the CEV Cup .

Bann took part in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro with the Canadian national team. The Canadians reached the quarterfinals in second place, where they were eliminated by Russia . He was also in the 2016 World League . In the 2016/17 season, the sweeper with the SWD Powervolleys was eliminated in the cup quarter-finals , but reached the semi -finals in the Bundesliga and thus reached third place. In the 2017 World League he played with Canada in Group 1 and won the bronze medal by beating the USA ; Bann also received an individual award as the best libero in the world league. In the 2017/18 season, the Powervolleys made it to the second round of the CEV Cup with a ban , but had to admit defeat in the playoff quarter-finals of the Bundesliga. Then the Libero moved to the French first division club Chaumont Volley-Ball 52 . With the national team, he finished seventh in the new Nations League . With Chaumont he became French runner-up and he reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League . After the season he returned to Düren again. With the SWD Powervolleys he reached the semi-finals of the DVV Cup and the quarter-finals of the Bundesliga playoffs in the 2018/19 season . With the national team, he came ninth in the 2019 Nations League overall. In the 2019/20 DVV Cup , Bann reached the final with the SWD Powervolleys, which the team lost to the Berlin Recycling Volleys . When the Bundesliga season was canceled shortly before the playoffs, Düren was in sixth place in the table. Bann will also play for the SWD Powervolleys in the 2020/21 season.
