North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation

The North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation , or NORCECA for short , is the continental umbrella organization for volleyball in North and Central America and the Caribbean . The headquarters of the association, founded in 1968, is in Santo Domingo ( Dominican Republic ).

history

In the Central American and Caribbean Games of 1966 in San Juan ( Puerto Rico ) in 1966, the foundation was NORCECA decided. In addition to representatives from Puerto Rico, Cuba , the Dominican Republic and Haiti , the later FIVB President Rubén Acosta Hernández from Mexico was involved in the development. It was formally incorporated in 1968 when Canada and the United States joined the association. Rubén Acosta Hernández then appeared as the first President of NORCECA from 1968 to 1984 . In 1984 he was replaced by Libertario Pérez , who subsequently served for four years. Luis R. Mendoza then headed the association from 1988 to 2001 , before being replaced by the Dominican Cristóbal Marte Hoffiz , who is still in office today (as of 2017).

NORCECA is superordinate to the individual national associations and organizes continental competitions. The first NORCECA championship took place from August 4th to 9th, 1969 in Mexico . The first junior championship took place in 1980. The association is also involved in the organization of qualifying tournaments for the Olympic Games and World Championships, as well as in international competitions organized by member associations.
