The Canadian men's volleyball team is a selection of the best Canadian players represented by the Volleyball Canada Association in international tournaments and internationals.

history

World Championship

Canada took part in the 1974 World Cup in Mexico for the first time and finished 20th. The same result came four years later . In 1982 , the Canadians rose to eleventh place. After the missed tournament in 1986, they finished twelfth in 1990 . Four years later they came in ninth place for the first time in the top ten. Then it went back to twelfth place in 1998 , down to 17th place. After eleventh place at the 2006 World Cup , the 2010 tournament came in 19th place, the worst result. In 2014 , the Canadians reached the second group stage and finished seventh. The same result was achieved at the 2018 World Cup .

Olympic games

At the 1976 Games in Montreal , the Canadians played as hosts for the first time and finished ninth. In 1984 in Los Angeles , they just barely missed a medal as fourth. In 1992 in Barcelona they finished tenth. In 2016 in Rio de Janeiro , they were there again and were eliminated in the quarter-finals against Russia . As winners of the NORCECA qualification tournament in Vancouver , they secured their starting place for Tokyo 2020 .

NORCECA championship

At the first NORCECA championship in 1969, the Canadians finished fourth. In 1971 they were not there for the only time. In 1973 they came third, two years later they were fourth again and in 1977 third. In 1979 they were only defeated by hosts Cuba in the final. After third place in 1981, they reached the final against a host again in 1983 and were subject to the USA. After that there were two third places before losing the next final against Cuba in 1989. They then finished third six times in a row, hosting them in 1991 and 1995. In 2003 they had to admit defeat to the USA in the final. They finished the 2005 tournament in their own country in third place. After that, they missed the medal ranks twice in fourth place. After third place in 2011, there was another lost final against the USA in 2013. In 2015, the Canadians won the continental championship for the first time with a win against Cuba. In 2017 they finished third as defending champions. The same result came in front of a home audience in 2019.

World cup

The Canadians took part in the World Cup for the first time and finished twelfth. From 1995 to 2003 they rose from tenth to eighth to seventh place. They also finished seventh in the 2015 World Cup. They finished the 2019 tournament in ninth place.

Nations League

In the first edition of the Nations League 2018 , the Canadians narrowly missed the final round as seventh overall. During the tournament in 2019 , they were ninth.

World league

In the world league , the Canadians were represented for the first time in 1991 and finished tenth. A year later, they reached seventh place. In 1999 and 2000 there were two more participations, which ended in places eight and eleven. The Canadians finished the 2007 tournament in 13th place. In 2012, they were twelfth. The following year they finished fifth. After that there were three double-digit results. In the last edition in 2017, they achieved their best result in this competition as third place
