Men's Volleyball World Cup 1977

The 1977 Volleyball World Cup was the third edition of the competition. It took place in Japan between November 17th and 29th . The USSR won the title.

•  USSR and Poland as finalists of the European Championship 1977 
•  South Korea and People's Republic of China as finalists in the Asia qualification 
•  Cuba , Canada and Mexico as the winner, finalist and third place in the 1977 NORCECA championship  
•  Brazil won the South American Championship in 1977
•  Egypt won the 1976 African Cup
•  Bulgaria and USA at the invitation of the FIVB

The first round was held in four groups with three teams each. The two best teams in each group qualified for the second round, where they were divided into two groups of four teams each. The group winners and runners-up of the two groups formed the championship group.
