At the first NORCECA championship in 1969, the Mexican women used their home advantage and won the title against Cuba , which they successfully defended in Cuba two years later. When the championship returned to Mexico in 1973, the hosts finished fourth. In the next four tournaments, the Mexicans took third place three times (1977 sixth). After finishing fourth in 1983, they were missing for the first time in 1985. They then came fourth four times and sixth three times, most recently in 1999 in front of their own audience. In 2001 there was still a fourth place and after missing the qualification for the tournament in 2003 it was only seventh and sixth in 2005 and 2007.
