The Dominican national volleyball team for women is a selection of the best Dominican players that the Federación Dominicana de Voleibol represents at international tournaments and internationals. The Dominicans have been taking part in world championships and other international tournaments regularly since 1998. In 2020 they qualified for the third time for the Olympic Games. They are also the reigning champions of the continental association NORCECA.

World championships

The Dominican Republic first took part in a volleyball world championship in 1974 and finished in 21st place. Four years later , she moved up two places. She then missed four tournaments before finishing eleventh in 1998 . It continued with 13th place in Germany in 2002 and two 17th places at the next two World Championships. At the 2014 World Cup , the Dominican women entered the third group stage and achieved their best result with fifth place. At the 2018 tournament they also reached the top 10 with ninth place.

Olympic games

In 2004 in Athens the Dominicans took part in the Olympic tournament for the first time and reached eleventh place. In 2012 in London they reached the quarter-finals, in which they had to admit defeat to the USA . As winners of the NORCECA qualification tournament , they secured their starting place for the 2020 Olympic Games .

NORCECA championships

The Dominican Republic finished fifth in the NORCECA championship in 1973 and 1975 . In 1977 in their own country the Dominicans took fourth place. This was followed by two fifth places and in 1983 sixth place. In 1985, they finished fifth again as hosts. After the missed tournament in 1987, there were two more fifth places and in 1993 sixth place. In 1995 the women of the Dominican Republic reached fourth place again in front of their own audience. In 1997 they won their first medal with third place, which they narrowly missed two years later. From 2001 to 2007 they were third four times in a row, with the first two successes in front of their own audiences. In 2009 the Dominican women won their first NORCECA title in the final against Puerto Rico . From 2011 to 2015 they were defeated three times in the US finals. In 2019 they took revenge with their second title win.

World cup

In 2003, the Dominican Republic took part in the World Cup for the first time and was tenth. In the tournaments in 2007, 2011 and 2015, she improved by one place. At the World Cup 2019 she was seventh again.

Nations League

In the Nations League 2018 , the Dominican Republic took 14th place. At the 2019 tournament , she improved to eighth place.

World Grand Prix

The Dominicans took part in the World Grand Prix for the first time in 2004 and came in twelfth place. For the next six years, they alternated between eleventh and eighth or ninth. After that, there were double-digit placements between ten and thirteen until 2016. In the last edition in 2017, the Dominican Republic performed a little better with eighth place.
