Châtillon-en-Diois (wine region)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Châtillon-en-Diois is a wine-growing region in the central section of the large wine-growing region of the Rhône . The vineyards are located in 13 municipalities east of Die in the immediate vicinity of the eponymous town of Châtillon-en-Diois on the Bez tributary on the orographic right side of the Drôme . Some vineyards reach as far as the Vercors mountain range . The wine-growing region is the highest located appellation in France, as the vineyards are at around 570 m above sea level. Since March 3, 1975, the wine-growing region has had the status of an Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (also known as AOC for short). The growing area is partly congruent with the appellations Clairette de Die , Coteaux de Die and Crémant de Die .

In 1999, 3361 hectoliters of red wine or rosé wine and 1248 hectoliters of white wine were produced on 65 hectares of vineyards .

The grape varieties Gamay (share at least 75%), Syrah and Pinot Noir are permitted for red wine . The wine should be enjoyed in its youth at a drinking temperature of 15-16 ° C. The rosé wines are made from the same grape varieties. Here the drinking temperature is around 8-10 ° C.

The grape varieties Aligoté and Chardonnay are permitted for white wine . These wines can be stored for 4-6 years. Their ideal drinking temperature is 8–10 ° C.

The basic yield, i.e. the harvest restriction, is a moderate 50 hectoliters / hectare; an amount that, depending on the age group, can be up to max. 60 hectoliters / hectare can be corrected upwards.

The minimum sugar content of the must must be at least 161 g / l. If this value is not reached in bad years, a chaptalization can be approved.
