Jochen Schöps (born October 8, 1983 in Villingen-Schwenningen ) is a German national volleyball player .

Career

Schöps began his career at TG Schwenningen , the club in his hometown. He came to the volleyball boarding school in Frankfurt through VC Offenburg . He then played at VC Olympia Berlin before moving to Bundesliga club VfB Friedrichshafen in 2003. A year earlier, he had been used for the first time in the senior national team , with which he took part in the 2003 European Championship in Germany. In 2004 he won the DVV Cup with VfB . In the next two years he won the double twice. His participation in the 2006 World Cup in Japan was initially at risk for health reasons, but in the end he finished ninth with the national team. In 2007 he won the Champions League with VfB Friedrichshafen in addition to the national double . He was voted the most valuable player in the Champions League finals and Germany's volleyball player of the year . He then moved to the Russian Super League for VK Iskra Odinzowo . At the European Championships in 2007 in his new sporting home, he was fifth with the DVV selection and at the Olympic Games in Beijing in August 2008, he came ninth. In 2009 Jochen Schöps was voted volleyball player of the year for the third time in a row. At the Olympic Games in London in 2012, he reached fifth place with the national team. Schöps then moved to the Polish club Asseco Resovia Rzeszów , with which he became national champion in 2013. In 2014 he won the bronze medal with the German team at the World Cup in Poland . With Rzeszów, Schöps won the Polish championship again in 2015 and was elected MVP of the league. He also reached the final in the Champions League . With the national team, Schöps won the gold medal at the European Games in Baku .

When Schöps fell in a Romanian hotel in November 2015, he suffered a dislocated shoulder joint and was out of action for several months. In 2018 Schöps ended his national team career and moved to the French club Stade Poitevin Volley-Ball. Until December 2019 he played for Police SC in Qatar . At the end of January 2020 he moved to the United Volleys Frankfurt .
