The diesel-electric locomotives of the BB 67400 series were built between 1969 and 1975 for the French state railway SNCF . They were based on the BB 67000 series introduced in 1963 . The 232 exemplars were made by Brissonneau & Lotz and MTE (Matériel de traction électrique). They were ordered on January 6, 1967, and the first machine was handed over to the Chambéry depot on August 14, 1969 . The BB 67632, which was delivered on October 31, 1975, was the last diesel locomotive to be handed over to the SNCF in the 20th century.

At the beginning of December 2015, 134 machines were still in operation, on December 31, 2016, 119 machines. They are used in various branches of the SNCF, including in the freight transport SNCF Fret , in the local transport area TER and in the Paris suburban transport ( Transilien ). On June 1, 2019, exactly 100 units were still operational.

The BB 67613 was repainted in January 2019, the originally blue areas are now red. In the future, the machine will serve as a locomotive for passenger coaches, which will be painted accordingly on the occasion of the anniversary of the introduction of the Le Capitole express train 50 years ago.
