Stefan Hübner (born June 13, 1975 in Bielefeld ) is a former German national volleyball player , four-time volleyball player of the year and today's volleyball coach.
Career as a player
Hübner began playing volleyball when he was nine years old in Hamburg at 1. SC Norderstedt . As a teenager, the Bielefeld native switched to Eimsbüttel TV . For this club, Hübner also played in the second division. In 1994 he returned to 1. SC Norderstedt. There he played for the first time in the 1st Bundesliga . In the following season, the middle blocker hit for Moerser SC . Two years later he took part in the European Championship in the Netherlands with the senior national team. In 1998 he moved to SCC Berlin , with whom he won the DVV Cup in 2000. Then he went to Italy. In Loreto, Montichiari and finally Trentino he developed into one of the best middle blockers in the strong Italian league. The German fans honored his achievements by voting him volleyball player of the year in 1998 and 1999 as well as 2001 and 2002 . In 2005, however, he had to temporarily end his career due to several injuries. Together with Thomas Kröger he formed a new duo in beach volleyball . He also worked as an assistant coach for the German runner-up evivo Düren and commented on the Champions League games of the German clubs at Premiere . In spring 2006 he returned to the hall and played one season with his previous club Itas Diatec Trentino . He was also called back to the national team, with which he completed his next major tournament at the World Cup in Japan and finished ninth. At the EM 2007 in Russia , the team finished fifth. From 2007 to 2009 Hübner played with Sisley Treviso . With the national team, he reached ninth place at the Olympic Games in Beijing in August 2008. With the 2009/10 season in Perugia, Hübner ended his Italian career abroad as the Challenge Cup winner . After a two-year break, he made his comeback with the national team in September 2010, but had to cancel the World Cup in Italy due to an injury.
In June 2010 he signed a two-year contract with the German Bundesliga club evivo Düren , where he was also supposed to be involved in sponsor support and marketing. Due to his injury, however, he was only able to play for Düren for the first time in March 2011, towards the end of the 2010/11 Bundesliga top round. In January 2012, Hübner announced his retirement from active competitive sports due to persistent injury problems.
Career as a coach
Since November 2011, Stefan Huebner has been assistant coach of the German men's national volleyball team . From April 2012 to 2013 he was also an assistant coach at the Belgian club Noliko Maaseik . In the 2013/14 season he was head coach at the second division TSG Solingen Volleys . Since 2014, Hübner has been training the first division promoted SVG Lüneburg .
Private
Stefan Hübner has been married to the volleyball player and long-term partner Angelina Grün since 2012 . In 2014 their son Jakob was born.
