Paul Schmeing (pronounced Schmeing , born May 9, 1964 in Cologne ) is a former German volleyball player and two-time volleyball player of the year .

In the 1980s Paul Schmeing was a volleyball player for Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen , with whom he won the German Cup in 1988 and German championship in 1989 and 1990 . Paul Schmeing was one of the most effective backfield attackers in the Bundesliga and was voted volleyball player of the year in 1989 and 1990 . In 1991 he moved with the entire Leverkusen team and player -coach Lee Hee-wan to SV Bayer Wuppertal . Here Paul Schmeing was again German volleyball champion in 1994 and won the DVV Cup in 1995 . In 1996 he had to end his career because of shoulder problems.

Paul Schmeing has been a German national player 170 times . Today he works as a specialist in orthopedics in a group practice in Hennef .
