Aris Thessaloniki VC ( Greek Άρης Θεσσαλονίκη ΤΑΠ ) is the volleyball department of the renowned Greek sports club Aris .
history
The first official Panhellenic Championship in volleyball was held in 1936. In 1968 the league was fundamentally reformed. Since then, with the exception of two seasons , the Aris VC has been an integral part of the highest Greek division in volleyball. After initial difficulties, they established themselves as the third strongest force, but could not break the permanent dominance of the two greats, Olympiacos Piraeus and Panathinaikos Athens , who made the championship each year among themselves. It was not until the 1993/94 season that they won the runner-up for the first time, after having only been able to occupy third place years earlier. In the 1995/96 season this success could be repeated, only to celebrate the first and so far only championship a year later. In addition, they also secured the Supercup against cup winners Olympiacos. This makes Aris the first Greek volleyball champion who has not come from Athens since the League's reformation. In the following years, however, this level could no longer be maintained and slipped into the midfield of the league. In the 2003/04 season, Aris VC then failed to keep the class, and they were relegated for the first time. After playing under-class for two years, they rose again for the 2006/07 season and secured ninth place. With third place in the 2009/10 season, they took part in the international competition again.
