Kosonsoy ( Cyrillic and Tajik Косонсой ; Kyrgyz Касансай Kazansai ; Russian Касансай Kassansai ) is an independent city and also the capital of the district of the same name in the Uzbek part of the Fergana Valley in the Namangan province .
The population was 43,684 in 2006. The majority of the population are Tajiks . Kosonsoy is located on the river Kosonsoy of the same name on the northern edge of the Fergana Valley on the border with Kyrgyzstan in the north . The mountains of the Chatkal Mountains rise 3 km to the north . Kosonsoy is located 28 km north-northwest of the provincial capital Namangan .
Vegetable growing , dairy farming and silk spinning are of economic importance .
