Chortoq ( Cyrillic and Tajik Чортоқ ; Russian Чарта́к Tschartak ) is an independent city and also the capital of the district of the same name in the Uzbek part of the Fergana Valley in the Namangan province .
Chortoq has had city rights since 1976. The population was 52,800 in 2010. Chortoq is located in the northeast of the Fergana Valley. Chortoq is located 19 km east-northeast of the provincial capital Namangan . Chortoq is on the railway line from Qo'qon to Uchqo'rg'on . The city lies on the river Chortoqsoy . The Northern Ferghana Canal runs south of the city .
