Nele Mathilde Alwine Barber (born October 27, 1994 in Berlin ) is a German national volleyball player .

Career

Barber started volleyball in her hometown in 2005 at SG Rotation Prenzlauer Berg . In 2008 she became German champion with the U16s of the club. In the 2008/09 season, the student was a member of the regional league squad and made it to the second division north with the team. Then the outside attacker switched to VC Olympia Berlin . She was a student at the School and Competitive Sports Center in Berlin , with whom she became school world champion in July 2010 with a 3-1 victory over China. With the U18 national team, she reached fourth place at the 2011 European Championships in Ankara . At the world championships of the same age group, which also took place in the Turkish capital, Germany finished fifth with Barber. In 2011/12 and 2012/13 Barber played in the Bundesliga team of the VC Olympia.

Barber then studied in the United States. From 2013 to 2014 she was active at Marquette University in Milwaukee and played and on the university team. She then continued her studies at California State University, Long Beach . Then she returned to the German Bundesliga. In the 2018/19 season she played for 1. VC Wiesbaden . With the club, she reached the quarter-finals of the DVV Cup and the Bundesliga playoffs . In the Nations League 2019 she made her debut in the senior national team . Then she moved to league rivals SSC Palmberg Schwerin . In the DVV-Pokal 2019/20 she reached the semifinals with the club. When the Bundesliga season was canceled shortly before the playoffs, Schwerin was in first place in the table. In the 2020/21 season, Barber will play at USC Münster .
